A Bit About Matthew

The world of fantasy had always been alluring to Matthew growing up, whether it was in novels by the likes of authors such as Brent Weeks and Brandon Sanderson, or in video games such as Final Fantasy and Chrono Trigger. He was fascinated by all of the worlds where magic took various forms, and life's lessons could be distilled into fantastic tales.

As a full time engineer, Matthew spent many hours a day in front of a computer (arguably too many hours). Being immersed in the realm of code and numbers gave him very little in the way of creative outlets. He had always excelled at writing in high school and college, yet he never felt as though he had something to write about. In the summer of 2020, that changed.

With the world being on lockdown and Matthew temporarily being out of work, he had all the time in the world to find inspiration for a story. And, during a time of great tribulation, he found exactly the inspiration he needed to start his first fantasy series.

He had been fed up for quite some time with the entertainment that was pushed through the mainstream. As a Christian, Matthew wished to see more traditional and moral values pushed in the media. With today's mainstream entertainment, it seemed like morality and tradition were cast aside in favor of more sex, violence and depravity.

Matthew decided that he wouldn't complain that his values weren't being represented. Instead, he'd work towards writing stories through a Christian lens. He realized it was up to people as individuals to create an alternative to the mainstream.

Having grown up with fantasy for most of his life, it seemed like the perfect fit for him for his first story. He had the motivation to create the world he envisioned. He based the magic of his world on something demonized more than anything else in 2020: breath.

He found breath to be magical not only in the realm of fantasy, but in real life as well. Thus, the Breath Singer Saga was born.
